What a great experience from beginning to end! We arrived at the venue on a beautifully sunny Saturday morning hungry and ready for breakfast. The restaurant is situated in the stunning Elgin Valley on the Paul Cluver Farm.

We were warmly welcomed and started right in with an interesting salt tasting. Who knew
there was so much to know about salt! Our presenter was knowledgeable and confident in
passing on his ideas and experience. Coming from different regions from countries all over
the world, we were wowed with tastes of volcanic and Himalayan salts, to name a few. We
were encouraged to taste the different salts and it was explained to us which of the
different salts would be best prepared with which meats and vegetables.
Breakfast itself was a leisurely DIY affair – as in make your own! Placed before each of us
was a hot block of salt which was to be our frying pan! This block was very hot – providing
enough heat to cook eggs! We were also provided with tomato to cook on the block and
platters of bacon, mushrooms and cheese all served with delicious artisanal bread. Much
fun and laughter was to be had as we cooked our eggs to perfection. Strangely, no-one
asked for salt! I found it fascinating that the salty flavour was coming from ‘under’ the food
as opposed to from the top!
Breakfast was rounded off with cups of freshly ground coffee before we had to set off
